Two Years and 300 Blog Posts Later – The Anniversary of Deeper w/Jesus in Rhode Island

Two years and 300 posts ago, I began the adventure of this blog. As I was deciding on a blog theme, I thought and prayed about what matters most to me in life – knowing that I would have to live with that choice for the life of this blog.

Going deeper with Jesus is the theme that I chose and it’s the goal that defines my life. Going deeper and encouraging others to go deeper with Jesus always.

In honor of my two-year blogging anniversary coming this week and, this being my 300th post, I decided to repost my very first entry. I found it means as much to me today as it did then.

How do you go deeper with Jesus? What does going deeper look like in your life? What do you need to going deeper? What encourages or challenges you to going deeper with Jesus. I do so much talking on this blog, I would LOVE to hear from you!

Thanks for reading! Thanks for joining the adventure and being a source of encouragement and challenge for me! God bless and happy adventuring! Here’s to another year of going deeper.

First Post:   Deeper

Have you ever noticed the bugs we have on freshwater ponds and lakes in Rhode Island called water striders? These insects spend their days skimming the surface of the water.
I know people like that. They spend their days skating across the surface of life. They enjoy chitchat. They sample God and dabble in matters of faith.
I’m not like that. I like deep water, like giant squid, sponges, sharks and whales, I like to plunge far beneath the surface and explore the great ocean depths of faith. I like deep conversations.
I like to plummet from the mountain top of belief to the bottomless valley knowing that Jesus has me secured tighter than a bungi cord. Spelunking through spiritual catacombs, I discover hidden treasure in which my soul finds endless reward.
Too often I settle for a surface experience of God but He is as fathomless as the deep sea, deep space, deep pockets, deep thoughts, deep needs, deep hearts, deeper still.
Do you long, like me, to drink deeply of the adventure Jesus offers this side of the veil?
Deeper, deeper, let us go with God, into truth, into the light, into the exploration of that in which we live and move and have our being.
“Deep calls to deep at the sound of Your waterfalls; All Your breakers and Your waves have rolled over me.” Psalm 42:7 (NASB)

Take a minute and share – how do you go deeper with Jesus Christ? What encourages, drives, challenges you to deepen your relationship with God!

Congratulations on your blogaversary! When I think of going deeper with Jesus, I think of intimacy and friendship. Even though I will never know everything there is to know and love about the Lord, I desire to know Him better with every breath I take. Sometimes that means simply to be still and know that He is God, other times to hear His still small voice and obey, and other times to not even pray but to go ahead and do because I KNOW that’s what He wants done. I could go on and on, but that will suffice for now. Have a great week!

  2. Happy Bloggiversary! I only discovered your blog about 2 months or so ago, and it has been a great blessing to me. I love how you “go deeper”!!! I can relate to much of what you said here, I do not do “shallow” very well. (Too bad I’m not the same way with “real” water, lol! The thought of being underwater terrifies me!) Probably for me, my “deep” place is in my journal, because it is my prayer closet. My hubby and I can get into some really deep discussions about the Lord, too. That has not changed after more than 11 years of marriage!!!! I can always count on him to challenge me in my walk with the Lord! I love the cliche’ “still waters run deep”. That’s how I feel sometimes…even though outwardly I appear still at times, underneath there is a LOT going on. Love your writing style and heart for Jesus!!! I look forward to another 300 posts!!

  3. Congrats. What a great idea to repost your first one – I may do that when my blog’s anniversary rolls around. You’re a wonderful writer … wishing you many more years with your inspirational blog.

  4. Karin, you are a continual inspiration to me!

Lori, Congratulations! I don’t always take the time to post a comment, but your blogs always inspire and challenge me. I praise God for the insights he gives you and especially for the abundance of inspiration he gives you – 300 blogs in two short years is amazing to me. I count you as a dear friend and sister in Christ and look forward to continuing our journey together.

Lori, Your blogs have given me fresh eyes to see the Lord and examine myself before him. I especially like how you decided on the subject for your blog–what matters most to you. I have found myself covering the waterfront in my blog–GraciousInteriors, inspiring winsome homes and hearts. Because I sometimes need to escape the deep to let the Lord carry me in a quiet shallow place to rest–sometimes I cover transient topics–like home decor. Other times, I too long to challenge myself and think broadly and deeply about the Lord’s grace. But, your focus seems much more pointed–I am challenged by your single heart and your persistence–two years and 300 blogs. Well done, faithful writer!

  7. Felicia, your enthusiasm is so dear to me!

Maurie, I love your blog. If I had some other skill, I might have found another topic but I really am a “johnny-one-note” in life in that loving Jesus is what I have. Thank you for dropping by and leaving me a note! It means so much!

  8. Lori, Thanks for being so transparent in sharing your wit, wisdom, encouragement and love for Jesus. Love getting to know you more through your wonderful blog. (I seem to be having trouble getting htis comment to stick this time–if it shows up lots, forgive me)
