To All Who Have Gone Before – Today, St. Patrick

We are blessed to live in a time when we have access to the stories of so many who loved Christ before we did and who followed Him through every imaginable obstacle and trial. To celebrate St. Patrick is to celebrate the power of God who continues to work in those of us stones that lie in modern mud.

Before I was humiliated I was like a stone that lies in deep mud, and he who is mighty came and in his compassion raised me up and exalted me very high and placed me on the top of the wall.
Saint Patrick

Christ beside me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ within me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me. Saint Patrick

Happy St. Patrick’s Day. A Celebration of one with Deep Devotion to Jesus.

I love that hymn- binding to oneself the mysteries and power of God. It’s a wonderful picture of God’s grace and gifts to his people.. The trinity, his power, wisdom. I especially love verse five: “I bind unto myself today the power of God to hold and lead, His eye to watch, His might to stay, His ear to harken to my need. The wisdom of my God to teach, His hand to guide, His shield to ward; The word of God to give me speech, His heavenly host to be my guard.” I love hymns like this that you can make your prayer and reflect on the glory and power of God throughout the ages.

  2. Thanks, Sarah! I love that, too. What a great prayer for today to connect us to God and to those who went before us.

I lead the service today and borrowed your quotes from St. Patrick. Most people only think of St. Patrick’s day as a time for wearing green clothes, eating green food, and drinking green beer. What a loss. I made sure to throw in some good advertising for your blog! We should put the web address in our bulletin.
