Chicken Little Christians in the Days of Elijah

To everything there is a season.

That isn’t just a song from the sixties. It’s ancient wisdom from King Solomon.

There is a time and season for everything. A time to be silent and a time to speak.

It’s time to speak.

Some of you won’t like this blog post. If you’re fainthearted, culturally skittish or politically correct, don’t read on.

There is a God. The God I follow – the God of the Bible, Jesus Christ – is the One True God of the universe. There is no other God.

My God IS better than any other god out there. Period.

If you follow this link: http://www.theblaze.com/stories/tis-the-season-atheists-anti-religion-campaigns-gear-up-for-christmas/ you’ll learn about four atheist organizations planning full-scale advertising campaigns through the Christmas season claiming ““You Know it’s a Myth. This Season Celebrate Reason.”

As word of this campaign spreads, the “chicken littles” of the Kingdom of God will run around wringing their hands claiming that the sky is falling on the church.

But I warn you now: these are not the times for Chicken Little Christians.

These are the days of Elijah.

And David.

And Paul.

As our culture becomes more and more polytheistic and atheistic, we have a tremendous opportunity to share the truth with a boldness unprecedented in modern times. We don’t need to pussyfoot around the truth.

We can stand on the battlefield against every Goliath the Philistines send and say “I stand this ground in the name of the One True God, Jesus Christ.”

We can call out every priest of Baal and dare them to have their god or their non-god set fire to the altar and know that we serve the One True God who is a consuming fire.

We can stand in the marketplace like Paul and use the very reasoning of the culture to which we speak to proclaim the truth that Jesus Christ is the One True God.

There is a God. He is the God of the Bible. He is God and He is the Only God.

I’m nobody.

I’m a small town girl from the smallest state in America. I’m a wife. A mom. A part-time worker. A small-time writer. I don’t own even a tiny piece of this earth and no one would be impressed with my bank account. You wouldn’t be drawn to me in a crowd.

But I love and serve Jesus Christ, the son of the Living God, Jehovah, the great I Am who has revealed Himself to humanity through creation, through the scriptures and through His Son, Jesus Christ who died, rose and is coming again.

I am nobody BUT I have a voice. And now is the time to speak.

We live in the days of “The American Humanist Association”, “American Atheists”, “The United Community of Reason”, and the “Freedom From Religion Foundation”. The men and women in these groups are trying to complete the Tower of Babel and they are not afraid to babble on in the public square.

David met Goliath with five smooth stones. Followers of Christ are living stones. (I Samuel 17)

Elijah faced down the prophets of Baal by calling down fire from God. Followers of Christ have received the fire of the Holy Spirit ushered in on the day of Pentacost. (1 Kings 18)

Paul stood in the center of Athens, the birthplace of modern reason, and proclaimed the truth of Christ with the power of God and with sound reasoning. He completed his speech with this message that is still our message: 29 “Therefore since we are God’s offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone—an image made by human design and skill. 30 In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. 31 For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead.” (Acts 17)

The same wise king who said “to everything there is a season” also proclaimed that “there is nothing new under the sun.” This is true.

Just as in the days of old, people hawk their idols or insist there is no God and that humans have no need of anything but their own minds and imaginations.

And just as in the days of old, these people are wrong and it is our responsibility to speak the truth to them and to all who might listen to them.

Jesus Christ is the One True God.

Celebrate Him in the coming season by proclaiming this truth with the boldness of David, of Elijah, of Paul. The same God who empowered them empowers you.

These are the days of Elijah. There is no God like Jehovah. He is the God of every season and He is the God who created reason.

Be the voice crying in the wilderness, “Prepare the way of the Lord.”

The longer I live the more I personally have seen that there is ‘nothing new under the sun.’Yesterday, today and forever – Jesus is the same! Thanks for this post – so well written! Love it! One of my many favorite – totally based on Scripture – songs! You’ll like the video I’ve got on my blog today. I cried with joy!

How did you get the video to be so small – don’t know how to size it before putting it on my blog.

  2. Thanks, Karin.

To get the video to be smaller, when you copy the embed code there is a spot below that with sizes. I usually make the width 350 and it adjusts the height automatically. :)AFTER you adjust the height, THEN you copy the embed code.

  3. Powerful post, Lori! Thank you for sharing it. Oh, and that’s one of my favorite songs, too. 🙂
